Passion is an overwhelming feeling that drives a person to action till some sort of mental satisfaction is derived. One could be passion-driven about a career or profession, an academic course, a person and so on. However, the principle that works with passion is “the end justifies the means”. This is because a person’s mental and emotional satisfaction in the long-run is embedded in what constitutes his passion.
The question then is how can one discover his passion?
Discovering your Passion
Given the dynamic nature of human
beings, it is difficult to pinpoint strait-jacket procedures to finding one’s
passion. But there are some objective measures that if adapted to one’s
peculiar nature, one can identify his course in life.
1. Passion comes from Success
There is no big search engine with which one can discover his or passion. The first rule to passion finding is that you are passionate about what you are successful at. So ask yourself, what am I or what have I been successful at doing? Passion is linked to success because the feelings of passion are intentional; they aim at ensuring that we concentrate our efforts on things that reward us the most.
Imagine that you start a piano class and you find it easy. You suddenly realize that you find it easy than others and you are fast at learning it too. This rising excitement you feel could become passion in you. It is this feeling that makes you come back for more rehearsals in order to improve your skills not minding the fact that you will be compounding your strength. Therefore, you can discover your passion in what effort you find yourself successful at the most.
2. You can create your passion
It may be helpful to know that successful people in life generally didn’t pick their passion off a shelf. In fact, many of them simply created it. There are instances of school dropouts who eventually become great in their career. They simply found other areas where they were more skilled that educational curriculum did not recognize. In other words, they created their passion. So, one can develop passion for himself by examining his skills and abilities and how it can serve other people’s needs.
3. Discover your passion from your most valued qualities
Ask yourself these two questions: what qualities would I love to express to the world most and what ways would I enjoy expressing these qualities most? This discovery will help you define your life’s purpose in simple sentences. In the long run, it will help you conduct your life on a symbiotic relationship with the world such that both you and the world derive benefits from your value system.
4. Align your skills and talents with purpose and value system
We are all gifted with some unique abilities which we call talents. Once you are able to define your life’s purpose by highlighting your most valued qualities and how you would love to express the, organize all your activities around it.
