For a married person that is into business, the family life that he or she leads constitute a formidable force in determining his or her emotional life. Subsequently, the entrepreneur’s emotional life is a determinant of his or her fulfillment or satisfaction in the career path that he chose. So the pertinent question the entrepreneur asks him/herself is how can an entrepreneur achieve his goals and still spend quality time with those that matter to him or her, especially his family. This is what is called work-life balance.
This article suggests a few simple things to note that will enhance your work-life balance.
1.
Have a
rough definition of your daily activities.
There is nothing as helpful as having your activities well defined. It helps you to include the important people and activities that must be considered for the day into your agenda.
2.
Define
your priorities correctly.
Your business is important just as your family is important. Whenever the interests of your family clash with the interests of your business, you should objectively weigh the events that are involved, not the aspects of life. Put yourself in the shoes of your spouse or children. Your defined priority scheme will help you choose rightly.
3.
Know your
family members’ love languages.
What do you do that interprets love to your family members? How does your spouse or children define love? Knowing this will help you show them love in the right way while you build your business well too. For instance, if your spouse feels loved by your acts f service, you offer to prepare the dinner or take care of the laundry will speak so much volume to them.
4.
Make work
time distinct from home time.
I apply a principle to my life. The files of the office end in the office. In other words, once you are home, be home. Do not make your home an extension of your office.
5.
Don’t put
up the "I-AM-BUSY” to your family members.
Remember that both the success and challenges of your business will always take its toll on your family. Keeping up with this could be enough stress for them. Don’t add the “I am busy” attitude to it. Such an attitude is a way of telling someone off; defining the person as less important to you.
6.
Write
down every piece of ideas that flows in during your off-work period.
It is funny that measures of business ideas could flow in during your playtime with your family. Be meticulous enough to jot such down. Do not run-off to start implementing your ideas. You may be burning a bridge.
7.
Take
advantage of every time.
One of the very important elements of nature that entrepreneurs must respect is time. As an entrepreneur, harness every time you have with your family. Dressing up time, meal time, driving to their school, bed time and so on are important short but mindful times you can express your love to them.
As an entrepreneur, your family is a support-team that you must service well. Do not be too overwhelmed with your business goal that you leave them out of the game. Remember that, a time lost may never be regained again.
