Team culture refers to the behavioral pattern adopted by a group of people that are working together to achieve a unique goal or target. The team culture of any team literally defines the expectations of the team members from one another in order to fulfill their targets. As such, team culture encircles the key values and model attitude to work within a group f workers.
I once worked with team where our mindset to work is hinged on commitment to duty, not personality. This work-principle advises that each member of the team should recognize the project at hand as the most important thing and focus only on the execution of the project. In other words, members of the team are expected to motivate themselves and others to focus on the project only until the project is executed. This culture helped every member of the team focus on project with utmost commitment.
A healthy team culture is antecedent to successful completion of projects. This is why the team culture must be preserved. To this end, here are five (5) team building activities:
1. Define the Core Values of the Team to the Team Members
It is necessary that every member of the team knows what the team stands for. They should be able to define the duty of the team, their job description and work-principle. Knowing the definite goals of the team is very fundamental for the valued commitment of the team members to the team.
2. Group Mentoring
In order to produce the vision of an organization in her workers (especially the new ones), a deliberate mentorship process should be organized. Beyond this platform however, having a team being mentored by a senior member of the firm or of the department helps to inculcate in the members a sense of belonging to the company. This in turn reinforcestheir willful commitment to their particular team and to the company at large.
3. Company-sponsored Leisure Trips
One good way to reward the labor or perhaps harwork of team members is by providing them a time to have fun together as a team. This is of course gets them re-committed to the mission of the team.In fact, this platform enables members of the team to meet each other outside the pressure of deadlines and bonds of duty. More so, this avenue can be used as a way of appreciating them for their work-force and solicit for a stronger commitment.
4. Organized Lunch for the Team Members
The company or department can organize for the members of the team to have lunch together. Such a time can be used for brainstorming over difficult tasks and mapping out strategies to a given project. Because of the relaxed mood of team members at such a time, the kinds of ideas derived from such interactive sessions can be really surprising.
5. Inter-team challenge Activities or Community Service
An organization can also create challenges activities between departments in the firm such as soccer or basketball or volley ball competition. These kinds of event brings the members together in such a way that projects cannot. So the team can also be encouraged to organize a community service such as reaching out to the orphans, organizing a competition for colleges, and so on. These kinds of activity creat a lasting bond for the members of the teams.
